Ruth Lord, who set up Dress-A-Doll in Lutterworth with the help of a Sir Thomas White Loan Charity loan, is now set to launch a series of children’s books to go alongside her custom dolls.
Collaborating with a published author, Ruth has planned to have three books published – which focus on stories based around a young girl named Aimee who owns three dolls: Megan, Annie and Mabel.
From next year the books, which will be published by 3P Publishing, will be available to purchase as part of a package or individually.
To help illustrate the stories, Ruth is also looking for a girl aged 7 to 9 to play ‘Aimee’ for a set of photographs to be used within the books.
“Every week we have young girls come into the shop who love playing with the dolls and who adore the dolls that they buy. They always want new dresses and accessories and slowly the idea of stories came about,” Ruth explained.
“I have collaborated with a published author and we have come up with the first series of stories. Now we need to illustrate those stories in photographs and that was when I realised we need an ‘Aimee’. We are excited about this and I hope there are lots of children that would like to try out for the part.”
The chosen ‘Aimee’ will be in all the stories and will also receive the three character dolls alongside a copy of each of the books – the two runners up will receive a choice of one of the dolls.
Submissions should now be made to Ruth Lord at firstname.lastname@example.org, enclosing a short biography of the entrant and a photo.
Entries need to be made by 5:00pm on Saturday 19th December. Alternatively please drop into the shop and meet Ruth.
A shortlist of 10 will be drawn up and those chosen invited to the shop on Saturday 9th January and a winner will be picked that day.
